The palio is a horserace in the centre of siena, where the different areas of the town compete with each other in the main piazza. The race goes around the outside of the piazza while thousands of onlookers watch with anticipation and excitment. It was amazing. Neither of us has been to a horse race before let alone one in such a beautful setting. Definately worth seeing and worth the 5 hour wait in sweltering heat!!
